Laughter, the best medicine:
After many months, last night, my old colic pain resurfaced. As I nibbled at the last bites of dinner, I knew it was coming. Like some old unwanted friend. I tried to eat fast as I knew it had nothing to do with an upset stomach. And then I doubled over when the first spasm came about. It would be a long night I thought to myself and hoped some Advil would help. I popped the pill and asked the kids to make my bed. The younger one quickly closed the bedroom door behind her to give me the surprise. She does that whenever she has something special for me. I managed to pull a very happy and surprised face when she opened the door for me and gave her a kiss. I hit the bed and lay down motionless bidding the pain to go away. Both my daughters clambered next to me on the bed, pressed pillows to my tummy and rubbed my back. The older one asked me to wake her up in case the pain got worse. I asked them to go to sleep and tried 'holding the breath' technique to stab the pain a little bit. As soon as she heard my breathing sounds, the little one came out of her bed and told her sister "Nana, I think its coming. I think Mama is going to have a baby".
I dont know if laughter did the job or it was Advil, the pain subsided soon after and I got a good night's sleep.
