Univ of Utah, Rang Barse for Holi

A splendid display of color and culture, Univ of Utah's Indian Association celebrated Holi at the Univ ballroom. With the chandeliers hanging low, powder alpana on the corridor sides, great masala tea, samosas and tasty dinner it was a wonderful evening. Karaoke singing, Desibells, very good light and classical dancing-- it was a fantastic way to welcome spring.

Ankita's 9 yard sari was a disaster when I tried matching fabric for my saris at Joann's. So I ended up buying 9 yards of fabric from the store and jazzed it up with some golden lace. I thought it held well with a million pins! Wonder how Rani of Jhansi wore this style when she went to the wars. India is truly a heaven of variety. This marathi dance number has made me scrounge through google looking for a way to tie it the 'kachcha' way. Tried at least 20 sites and could not understand how to wear it the right way. Then a friend gave a tip over the phone and I honed my skills with Ankita as my guniea pig. So far it has held well. I think so! Watch this on youtube. The whistling is courtesy mom and few other cheer leaders!
