New face of Love
(On Valentine’s Day)

Be it a pair of new shoes
Or a simple hairstyle
A fresh coat of nail polish
Or a hand-me-down skirt
You could be hovering on cloud nine
As it is that time of the year

A turn of the head
An extra clap at the end of a recital
A little card
And a starry night
Sure create a skip in the walk
As it is that time of the year

A perfume
A flower
A book
A rain shower
Anything to believe
You share the power

If you thought
Love was straightforward
Love was easy
Love was untroubled
Love was breezy
Wait till you catch it there

Homes are built from houses
Lovers twist into spouses
Jobs are lost to bosses
Candles put out in douses
Cupid presents a new visage
You fail to recognize him

Words are bent in fights
Hands no more hold tight
Pillows that push further away
Time thrown in disarray
Sunny days give way to stressful nights
Our dear love is nowhere in sight

Its time now to call a truce
Turn back and simply excuse
Love still lingers, love still hungers
For you to seek
The buried signs
Under bookcases and pillow covers

A moment
A breath
A whisper
A quiver
Love entices
For you to discover

Thank you Atreyaji! You caught the most glaring line in the song "...lovers twist into spouses"!! Love changes its form very quickly. But sometimes there are swift, lightning moments when you can recognize 'old' images of love and then life seems meaningful.

On a lighter note, my mother, with whom I would share my innermost thoughts would give her sagely advice about youthful love. Never make husbands out of boyfriends, she would say.

Dear friend Julie Acharya Ray,

You’ve tellingly indicated the signs of love and the ways in which it can be shared. Your song shows the need for nurturing and renewing love. While the power of love is shown in your line, “Love still lingers, love still hungers,” its righteousness is suggested in the observation, “Lovers twist into spouses.” All the purest love unto you!

Well said, Julie! Love is the sun that can give warmth and life or it can scorch and burn to turn one to ashes. But unlike sunscreens, there are no off-the-shelf lovescreens. Warm wishes,

Dear Julieji

Very thoughtfully expressed. Love, as they say (I have said it earlier too somewhere in this forum) is a many splendoured thing. There can be 1001 or more ways to express it. I loved the way you have expressed it.

Yes, Julie, one has discover the treasure, that is love, for the pleasure of it, or else it gets stale. Love is an uncut diamond, needs to be cut to turn it into a koh-i-noor, or else how to turn a house into a home or a lover into a spouse? Lovely poem with excellent play of words. Happy Valentine's Day to you.
