To my Best Friend
I shut my eyes; not in sadness
And a teardrop escapes the corner
I think of the eager finger
That wiped it clean
In fear that I lacked cheer
Before I see them coming
On pitfall speckled streets
A hand shoots out
To bear the brunt for me
I believe it is yours my friend
When music fills the air
Tunes transcending the ordinary
And rhythms churn along
A special refrain fills my mind
That repeats your signature song
You save many half moons
To serve me on lightless nights
And rarely you beg me for stars
It satisfies me that I cannot give
Knowing that I lack your powers
Relief at my success
Toasts at my triumph
Can only bear your name
The past is yours and future yours
I have them secured in frames
Heartbeats cannot wipe
And years dare not pale
A million recollections
That you have breathed
With me my dear friend
I shut my eyes; not in sadness
And a teardrop escapes the corner
I think of the eager finger
That wiped it clean
In fear that I lacked cheer
Before I see them coming
On pitfall speckled streets
A hand shoots out
To bear the brunt for me
I believe it is yours my friend
When music fills the air
Tunes transcending the ordinary
And rhythms churn along
A special refrain fills my mind
That repeats your signature song
You save many half moons
To serve me on lightless nights
And rarely you beg me for stars
It satisfies me that I cannot give
Knowing that I lack your powers
Relief at my success
Toasts at my triumph
Can only bear your name
The past is yours and future yours
I have them secured in frames
Heartbeats cannot wipe
And years dare not pale
A million recollections
That you have breathed
With me my dear friend

Dear Julie, this lovely poem comes straight from the heart and says everything one would wish to say to a dear friend. With your permission I would like to print it out and gift to my friend on New Year's day, with full credit to you. I could not have said it better!! May your bond grow stronger as the years pass by. Warm regards,
