Ode to Allergies

When you are tickled
You are supposed to laugh
Fulfilling the order of the day
But nothing is normal
Nothing is fine
As you enter the month of May

With
Azeleas firing up street walks
Tulips fighting on side walks
And Candytufts fisting with vigor
May be YOU dont know, but THEY definitely do...
There is only one spring in every year

Irises, Hyacinths and Violets
Dianthuses, Daisies and Daffodils
Painting the breast of the earth
Attracting you to take one look
And, and, and…
Achchcoooo!!!
That’s all they are good for

The poor hypersensitive passer by
Who waits for Spring with terror
Cannot think of where to hide
When pursued in number by flowers

Rag weed, Sorrel and Sage brush
Tumble weed and English Plantain
Belch out sweet pollen into the air
Driving a foreclosure on the brain

Hitching rides on currents of air
Their mission of plant fertilization
Never dully fulfilled
Pollen enters the nasal passage
And tickles you as it never did

Eyes are itchy
You mirror a racoon
Nose is draining
Like a fountain on the moon
Throat is irritable
Like a forest on fire
You are sneezing
Like your gut would never tire

Histamines are released
Cell lines contract
Nasal passages swell
Opening you to attack

While you dive inside the house
Waxing on the IgE
Numerous shots and Zyrtecs later
You hear there is no cure for Allergy
