Kindergarten Kisses

Alana. Yes, the little 5 year old in Anu's class got into trouble at lunch time. She kissed Justin Baldeli, also 5, on his lips. I did not hear this from Anu but from her friend's mother while helping with the Valentine's Day party at school.

With so much discussion going on about 'love' in school close to Valentine's day, I guess the little girl got carried away. But listen to Justin Baldeli's wit. When Alana kissed Justin, he backed off and said 'Alana, this is wrong, you do not kiss until you are married'. Alana replied 'then will you marry me?'. Justin had the last word. He said 'when I grow up'.

When I asked Anu about the whole episode, she had a cheesy smile on her face and said "Mama, Alana went close to Justin's lips, but did not kiss. She was just about to. And the teachers have asked her never to repeat it again. So I guess she knows she will not do that until she is married'.

5 years of our stay in this country and I can hear the traditional Indian barriers breaking down within my children. I pray that Anu remembers these Kindergarten rules until she is ready for a kiss.
